  • ½ cup melted butter or vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ to 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark preferred)
  • Optional: extra chocolate chips for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. Mash the Bananas: Mash bananas in a large bowl until mostly smooth.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: Whisk in melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Mix Batter: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the banana mixture until just combined.
  6. Add Chocolate Chips: Toss chocolate chips with a teaspoon of flour and fold them into the batter.
  7. Prepare for Baking: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top if desired.
  8. Bake: Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. Cool: Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use very ripe bananas with dark skins. Don’t overmix the batter to keep the loaf tender and moist. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
